Our History

Originally named El Cerrito Electric Co., El Cerrito Lighting was established on November 22, 1946 by founders Victor C. Perero and his wife Katherine Perero, better known as Vic and Katie to their family, friends and the neighborhood.

Our orginal products included lighting fixtures, small electrical appliances, television, washers and dryers, electrical stoves. In the 1950’s Vic retired, turning the business over to his son-in-law Ed Canepa who was married to Vic’s daughter Fiorlea.

January 1976: We became El Cerrito Lighting and concentrated on supplying lighting fixtures to the growing area. Ed and his right hand assistant Doreen Wendt worked hard to make ECL a thriving retail business, supplying lights to hundreds of residences and Home Developments. Ed’s son Victor Canepa started working for the store when he was 15 and has been and integral part of the development of the lighting business. Our store has provided quality products at an affordable price for almost 60 years. We rely on our customers total satisfaction and return business.
